SBR Quickie: Wither Twitter?

Posted by Gayle Kesten Tuesday, Jun 16, 2009, 09:35 AM ET

From the "another-survey-that-validates-what-small-businesses-already-know" department: Social media is emerging as a direct marketing channel, according to email marketer StrongMail Systems.

How long have we been working that angle (which also qualifies for "another-survey-that-segues-into-why-you-should-use-survey-sponsor's-product/service" and "starting-to-get-on-my-nerves" departments)?

But I'm not (really) here to knock StrongMail's proclamation. Rather, I want to point you to a different, more contrarian, observation/prediction that seemingly flies in the face of that survey and all of the noise we HAVE been making about social media -- Twitter, specifically: "Observers are starting to say that like earlier social media phenoms such as MySpace, Twitter itself will become irrelevant," blogs bMighty publisher Fredric Paul. "Could happen. Heck, probably will happen."

Huh?
