Women Who Tech Teleconference
Can anyone predict the weather for New York next Tuesday? That's when I plan to park myself at my spring/summer home office (a.k.a. the deck) for the better chunk of the day while dialed into the "Women Who Tech" second annual teleconference for women in technology.
Fresh air, female entrepreneurs, and how they're using technology to not only better their businesses, but better the world -- just like last year's event, it sounds like a virtual event full of informative panels to me. (Check out my two-part coverage here, about personal branding, and here, about the value of social capital.)
The May 12 telesummit's underlying goal: to achieve better representation for women in tech in the media, with the plan to create a database of women technology experts to be used as a resource for the media and tech conference organizers. "Women have been at the forefront of developing technology before the days of floppy discs, CRT monitors, and corded mice," said Allyson Kapin, organizer of Women Who Tech, in a statement. "The Women Who Tech telesummit is for those of us who see computers as instruments of social change, not just hardware and software."
Panelists include some familiar faces from last year, such as MoveOn.org's Joan Blades and FastCompany.com's Lynne D Johnson. The lineup also includes EMC's Sheryl Chamberlain , Google's Rebecca Moore, and former Fortune 500 exec-turned-"chief-risk-guru" Dee McCrorey. In all, a dozen panel discussions are on the agenda, with two running concurrently from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. EDT. A one-time cost of $10 gets you into as many as you can manage. Topics include:
- Women and Open Source
- Tech Marketing in a Recession
- Tools Galore in Online Communications
- Launching Your Own Startup
- Social Media ROI
More information is also available on Facebook and Twitter. After-parties have been planned in Washington, D.C., Manhattan, San Francisco, and London. Details are available here.
