Notable Netbooks For Small Businesses

Posted by Gayle Kesten Tuesday, May 5, 2009, 01:47 PM ET

Small is all might very well be the new thin is in.

About the size of your standard shoe box, weighing no more than a soaking-wet Chihuahua, and at a fraction of the price of an average notebook, a netbook's appeal to small businesses seems clear.

Making ownership even more enticing, netbook-makers continue to up the feature ante to these "huggable luggables," as InformationWeek calls them, extending beyond increases in memory, screen sizes, capacity, and processing speed. Interest sufficiently piqued? Then read through IWeek's roundup, called "7 Netbooks That Will Surprise You," which comprises the following makes/models (some of which are still en route to market):

    1. ASUS Eee PC 1004DN
    2. Dell Inspiron 13
    3. Gigabyte T1028 TouchNote
    4. Lenovo "ThinkPad Netbook"
    5. MSI U123
    6. Samsung NC20
    7. Sony Vaio P

Given how much of my day is spent in front of my laptop, I personally can't see relying on a netbook 24/7 -- seriously, my eyes are already shot from a 15.4-inch monitor. But as a second computer to have on those days I'm on the go? It's a purchase even I have a hard time talking myself out of.

Do you already own or have plans to buy a netbook? Which one?
