HP Launches Microbiz Store Online

Posted by Gayle Kesten Monday, Jan 26, 2009, 03:27 PM ET

HP has cut the ribbon on an online specialty shop for home-based microbusinesses.

The new HP Home and Home Office Microbiz Store "makes it easier than ever for microbusinesses to easily find the products and services they need to grow their business, while saving money and simplifying the process. Products represent a mix of consumer and commercial products, best relating to what microbusiness customers need," states the e-mail I received.

Beyond the PR-speak, what you're presented with is a nice range of less costly hardware and accessories than what you'll find in, say, HP's SMB shop. That said, both shops' offerings overlap, so do the smart-shopper thing and look around. For example, HP's just-announced $1,400 touch-enabled PC isn't in the Microbiz Store, but you will find other TouchSmart series computers with price points below and above that mark. The same goes for HP's new $1,160 dc7800 Ultra Slim desktop, in its SMB shop; for microbusinesses, the vendor suggests its Slimline series instead.

Overall, the majority of laptops and tablets in the Microbiz Store cost less than $800, while desktops cost less than $600. You'll also find a good selection of printers, handheld devices, scanners, and related accessories. What you won't find: software. But, hey, that's why we have Dell.
