A Call To the Home-Office Workforce

Posted by Gayle Kesten Monday, May 19, 2008, 09:46 AM ET

Some days I work at the desk in my oversized bedroom. Other times I plant myself at the dining room table, facing the backyard. During the summer I retreat to my windowless basement, where it stays cool.

Aah, such are the options of a home-office worker, and that's who BusinessWeek wants to hear from for an upcoming photo essay that'll showcase the unique spaces of the "pajama workforce."

Aah, such are the options of a home-office worker, and that's who BusinessWeek wants to hear from for an upcoming photo essay that'll showcase the unique spaces of the "pajama workforce" -- be it "a tent on the beach, a tree house, or the back of a truck."

The deets: "Send us a brief description of your workspace along with one digital image no more than 1MB in size to onphoto@businessweek.com by May 30. Be sure to write 'Home-based Businesses Special Report photo essay participant' in the subject line of your e-mail. Tell us what you do and what distinguishes your space from a conventional office. Remember: Entrants must be running their own home-based business on a full-time basis, and have been at it for a minimum of one year. We will feature a selection of outstanding work spaces in an upcoming special report in photo-essay format and ask readers to vote on their favorites."

Why not go for it? True, you should change out of your pajamas (and consider a shower while you're at it!) if you plan to be in the photo, but that's a small concession. In the words of Escape From Cubicle Nation's Pamela Slim, "the chance to get your business in front of mainstream media readers is one of the best marketing strategies there is!

How true. And while you're at it, tell me about your set-up, too.
