Get Set for the SBA's National Small Business Week

Posted by Gayle Kesten Thursday, Apr 17, 2008, 05:07 PM ET

You don't have to be in NYC or DC to be part of the Small Business Association's annual National Small Business Week, April 21 to 25.

All next week, keynotes, panels and award events will be webcast live (and on-demand 24 hours after the fact) on the event's official Web site.

Said SBA administrator Steve Preston in a statement: "Every year since 1963, the President has proclaimed National Small Business Week to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the strength and economic well-being of America. Each year, the U.S. Small Business Administration also recognizes the special impact made by outstanding small business owners, and by champions of America’s entrepreneurs."

Topics include the state of small business, the cost and coverage of health care, how small business can rise to the energy challenge, building alliances with prime contractors, and financing inner city businesses. (Click here for the agenda.)

Among the speakers: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Michael Leavitt; Ambassador Susan C. Schwab; former House Speaker Newt Gingrich; the Energy Department's Clarence “Bud” Albright Jr.; and the Department of Homeland Security's Paul A. Schneider.

As for the awards, more than 100 business owners will be recognized as State Small Business Persons of the Year. Also among the honorees will be small-business owners involved in disaster recovery, government contracting, and financial and entrepreneurial development. (Click here for more.)
