500 Free Domain Names Up for Grabs
If the notion of something for nothing strikes your fancy, read on.
Next Thursday, April 17, Dotster, a domain-name registrar and Web hosting company based in Vancouver, Wash., plans to give away 500 domain names (.com, .net or .org) for free during a "Happy Hour" promotion to showcase its services.
From the company's announcement: "During Dotster's Happy Hour, customers who click the Happy Hour banner ad on the company's homepage will be taken to a page where they can receive their coupon for one free domain. In addition, Dotster will be offering 10% off all Web hosting plans from April 17 to April 22."
Ever the skeptic-wannabe, I contacted the company's reps to see if any strings were attached. I was assured the promotion works as advertised. Just click on the banner, then the page you're sent to will instruct you from there.
