Virtual Conference for 'Women Who Tech'

Posted by Gayle Kesten Wednesday, Mar 12, 2008, 07:28 PM ET

If you're a woman with a telephone (ya kiddin' me?), then what are you doing Monday, March 31?

In the spirit of creating a supportive network for the "vibrant and thriving community of women in technology professions" -- and to raise money for breast cancer research -- "Women Who Tech: A TeleSummit for Women in Technology" promises a full day's worth of panels and virtual workshops via conference call and webinar.

The panels should especially pique the interests of those who worked in the nonprofit and campaign sectors, but, overall, anyone involved in some aspect of tech will find something of interest. Sessions include:

  • Tooting Your Own Horn: Tips and strategies to help you enhance your careers and visibility.

  • Women And Open Source: How to become more involved in developing technology and contributing to open source and open standards.

  • Firing Up Your Online List: How to ramp up your online advocacy and fundraising efforts.

  • Everything You Wanted To Know About Tech But Were Afraid To Ask (a man): Tech tools that can help ramp up your technology program -- and which ones are overkill.

  • Mobile Activism: How to use mobile technology to fight for social justice issues and raise money for organizations.

OK, here's the bad news (for me, too): From the time I received notification about the telesummit (yesterday) till now, the panels have filled. Still, you can send an e-mail to get on a waiting list for any panels, which I plan to do since people's schedules change on a dime. And if you click on the Resources tab, you'll also see a list of upcoming events as well as some interesting facts about women in business.
