Palo Alto Software Upgrades Business-Planning Tool

Posted by Gayle Kesten Wednesday, Feb 13, 2008, 12:00 PM ET

Whether you're looking for financial backing or just need to keep your head on straight, devising a carefully thought-out business plan is a must for even the smallest of businesses.

But you already knew that.

What you might be struggling with is putting one together. (If you're anything like me, the words come to a screeching halt the minute I'm ready to document them.) One way to break the brain freeze is with the latest version of Business Plan Pro, from Palo Alto Software. BPP comes in two editions: Standard ($99.95), which includes hundreds of sample business plans, and Premier ($199.95), which adds analysis and planning tools to its mix.

BPP has received favorable reviews from trusted sources like The Wall Street Journal, Entrepreneur magazine and Inc. And this review, in Small Business Computing, cites such new features as a progress-tracking feature that makes it easier to see where you are in your business-plan process and a "keep it simple" option that speeds plan creation. The Premier Edition includes a new management dashboard that lets you compare real-world results against your business plan, and a "what if" feature that lets you see how different scenarios would affect your business' cash flow.

You can save $10 on the Standard edition on Amazon.com; the price for Premier is the same.
