AT&T Raises Broadband Pricing

Posted by Gayle Kesten Tuesday, Feb 5, 2008, 11:43 AM ET

AT&T customers will soon be paying more for their DSL service.

The telco is raising its prices by $5 for three tiers of subscribers residing in these 13 states: Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin.

Here's which services will be affected, and their new prices:

  • Basic (768 Kbps): $14.99 (will change to $19.95)
  • Express (1.5 Mbps): $19.99 (will change to $25)
  • Pro (3 Mbps) services: $24.99 (will change to $30)

Turns out, the 1.5-Mbps service is the most common among AT&T's 14.2 million broadband customers, many of whom run small/home offices and have to be hypervigilant about their spending.

Watch for other telcos following suit as they close the gap between what they charge and what cable companies charge.
