Successful Businesswoman Should Thank Her Buns

Posted by Gayle Kesten Friday, Jan 11, 2008, 05:09 PM ET

Sorry, couldn’t resist. But, despite the double entendre, it’s true!

Last night Cordia Harrington, president and CEO of the Tennessee Bun Company, was named Woman Entrepreneur of the Year by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE).

Harrington’s 11-year-old, $50 million company makes 60,000 buns an hour, supplying such restaurants as McDonalds, Chili’s and Pepperidge Farm. (I will keep this in mind on Saturday, when my family and I head to Chili’s for what has become our weekend tradition.) Beforehand, Harrington built and ran companies in the food and real-estate sectors.

“Cordia's enthusiasm and passion for her work are highly contagious and laid the foundation for her success,” wrote Jeff Cornwall in his blog, The Entrepreneurial Mind.

Way to go, Bun Lady! I always find it inspiring to read stories like hers. Oh, and her company’s tagline? “We rise to the occasion.”

I like the way she thinks.
