10 Web Apps You Should Know About

Posted by Gayle Kesten Thursday, Jan 10, 2008, 12:32 PM ET

Let’s hear it for the little guys! I say that not only because I’m barely 5 feet tall, but because here in the SOHO market, making ourselves known amid our bigger competitors is an undeniable challenge.

The editors at Lifehacker know what I’m talking about. “We get tired of writing about the same big-name Web apps everyone knows about,” they say. That’s why they just released this insightful top 10 list of free online tools that don’t get much attention, but offer plenty of useful functionality.

The list includes a Web-based office suite that rivals Google Docs, an organization management tool, a transcription e-mail service that converts voice messages, and a social network creator. I have personal experience with the latter, called Ning, so trust me when I say they must all be easy to use.

Let me know what underhyped apps are helping you run your business better. I’ll compile a list and post them for our mutual benefit.
