So Many Shopping Days, So Many Labels
Ok. I've had it with the shopping day monikers: Black Friday, Cyber Monday and now there's even a third. What in the Sam Hill is going on? And what does that saying even mean?
Well let's leave that saying connotation for a minute as we explore the newly minted "Green Monday."
It seems the second week of December, at least for those doing business online, is 'the' shopping time with the first Monday of the second week being 'the' big retail day.
This year that means December 10th.
The quirk though is that last year's biggest online shopping day was on December 13th (meaning the original "Green Monday" was actually a Wednesday). I guess Green Monday has a better ring to it.
What I think it all has to do with is pretty simple:
Black Friday is huge as everyone's off from work.
The second week in December is big because people are starting to panic shop, then there's the shipping/arrival date issue and it's the first paycheck of the month for many and so becomes the defacto Christmas fund.
Believe me, if online retailers slashed prices and offered free shipping the week after "Green Monday" we'd be celebrating a Gold Friday or a Thankful Thursday.
Oh, and if you're wondering about the "Sam Hill" saying check this out.
