Is It All In The Name?

Posted by Judy Mottl Wednesday, Dec 26, 2007, 11:58 AM ET

You've created a new company, but what should you call it? Don't rush this decision as your company's name is almost as valuable as having a product/service people want.

As I talk with business entrepreneurs on a pretty regular basis I always ask how the company name came about. And if I were a bit smarter I would have kept a running list, especially back in those flamboyant dotcom days where unique company names sprung up on a daily basis.

As a BusinessWeek article points out, naming your company isn't something you want to rush. You want to think it out, research to make sure the name you want isn't already in use and you have to float it by those you trust to make sure there isn't any hidden meaning or negativity associated with the chosen words.

So tell me, how did you come up with your company name? Share it here or email me and I'll compile them for a blog post later in the week.
