A Resolution That Requires Attention

Posted by Judy Mottl Sunday, Dec 30, 2007, 05:30 PM ET

2007 was the year of the data breach, with more companies acknowledging stolen data and more data getting illegally snagged--a four-fold increase over last year alone.

So it might be a good idea to do a good security assessment as the New Year begins, as experts claim lots of the data loss is due to human error and companies are still in a reactive mode rather than in proactive stance when it comes to data protection.

As an Associated Press article at MSNBC.com notes, the data loss trend isn't expected to take a turn for the better thanks to smarter and more sophisticated hackers. So SMBs would be wise to resolve to have better data security in place as 2008 arrives.
