A Big Technology Gets Small For SMBs
I know, the word virtualization might not mean a great deal to small business owners. But when you put it together with incredible tech savings--like having to spend just $1K instead of $20K for a server farm--you need to pay attention.
Virtualization--the ability to parse servers into separate systems saving on hardware, software and physical space costs as well--isn't new by any means. But it is just coming into its own within small enterprises.
The one thing you do need is IT expertise--whether you have one fulltime tech leader or rely on tech outsourcers.
Take time at lunch to read BusinessWeek's article on how a small bank and a small packaging company took the virtual route when it came time to upgrade and update servers and both saved thousands of dollars and even improved their data back-up capabilities.
It's clear virtualization isn't a technology out of reach for the small to mid-size enterprise any longer.
