Microsoft's IT Is A Bit Mind Blowing

If you think grappling with your IT projects, and reducing costs while boosting productivity with tech, is a constant mountain climbing experience then you need to read what Gates & Company are up against with internal tech these days.

No, there's no comparison on a business level. Yet you can't miss this compelling insider view of what IT leaders are doing out in Redmond. As InformationWeek's Chris Murphy relates, Microsoft business and tech leaders are dealing with the same issues tech colleagues at SMBs are facing, albiet on a much grander scale.

Imagine supporting 80,000 Vista desktops; melding 26 data centers into five, and maybe most intriguing of all, figuring out how to stop employees from provisioning their own server and writing new code on their own.

Oh, and yes, don't forget about the 300,000---yes, you read that right---blogs and wikis in play. Mindblowing to say the least. Kind of makes one feel that some of the mountains we're all trying to climb and conquer are actually just mole hills.
