Where Is Your Tech Budget Going?
A Forrester research report states small and medium size businesses aren't spending big on IT this year with just an average budget boost of a little over 2%, with staff costs and hardware needs eating up nearly half the total budget.
Is this in line with what's happening with your budget? Are you spending more or less on technology this year? And what are you spending it on?
The Forrester report says the primary SMB IT goals are improving the efficiency of IT and measuring IT impact on business performance.
IT spend is focused on improving disaster recovery and security (no real surprise there I guess), and upgrading hardware. What is a bit surprising is that a good portion (66%) of SMBs are using ROI tools to secure funding for IT initiatives and establishing a business case to get more tech funding.
Why do I think that's surprising? Well SMBs typically don't have the staff or resources to do either, and the fact that so many are shows that tech investment is clearly being viewed as a business value proposition.
