Public Wi-Fi Use And The Need To Be Smart

Posted by Judy Mottl Wednesday, Aug 29, 2007, 04:04 PM ET

Whether you're running your own business or running the tech inside a small business, you should be very concerned about mobile connectivity and what users are doing with that laptop when they're not in the office.

Why? Well for one thing public nets can be dangerous places (check out this great article by Carmen Nobel at BMighty on why public Wi-Fi hotspots have alot in common with public toilets), and it's likely someone's just lurky to grab a user's data or just invoke havoc with your networking and laptop security.

Yet danger aside there are a few things a small business can do to make mobile connectivity secure and productive. David Haskin has authored a great guide on using hotspots and other public wireless opportunities that you should share with all your mobile users.
